Just some social links to me

Posted by evanduq on August 5, 2009

Let’s get this party started. Let’s get the philosophical bonfire raging!

Follow my tweets at “PureBecomingNet” over on twitter. (some of them are quite mundane, i know) And I will follow yours.

Check out my channel when I’m broadcasting at Justin.tv at www.justin.tv/philosophycat84 I know that some of the time it’ll be like watching the grass grow, but just start chatting.

Face me on facebook. My name is Evan Dusheck. We’ll get highbrow discussions started. ;)

Social networking about ideas about ideas about ideas ad infinitum is the way to go these days. I want to be thinking all the time people! Well, maybe not all the time… Let’s merge our pop culture and our tech with our meditations on all things philosophical. Let’s start a trend. We just need to gather the wood and make the firepit. Sparks will fly! Hahahaha.

Also, let me know if there are any other good social networking sites out there that we could use. I’m not a MySpace kinda guy though. Just a personal preference.

Cyberstan

Posted by evanduq on August 1, 2009

Here is a quote from a friend who shall remain anonymous: “As to the shocks of Cyberstan, I too am acquianted with them, and many a time they have made me lose my appetite (not just for food but, worse, for theory, philosophy, and things even more serious).”

I’ve been thinking about this. First of all, I’ve never heard of the term Cyberstan, but it makes sense. I kind of like it as a metaphor for the shared space created by new modes of living opened up through the use of networked technology. I’ve been of late expanding my presence in Cyberstan. But like in so many other domains, knowledge is often the only access key to new and better horizons (That and a bit of fortitude). The shocks of Cyberstan seem to come when either (a) new upgrades come out and are foisted on the general public or (b) when one decides to volunarily grab on to trends or do some serious exploring into uncharted territory. I’m currently in option (b) mode. I have tended to avoid exploring in the past, I think. I crave security it seems. There’s probably some deep psychological thingy there but for now that’s neither here nor there. I liken the shocks of Cyberstan to the general phenomenon of culture shock. I may not be going by the book on this one, but I’ll freestyle on Cyber-culture shock. So my first premise is that Cyberstan is really a world. It is made up of the technology you are habituated to and the people that populate the space or spaces between spaces in and around it. You may be a citizen of a country or a sans papiers, but Cyberstan is much more welcoming to you. The bad part is is that it cannot straight up really (but only indirectly) supply your biological needs as a human creature. (I know I should have attended those transhumanism conferences when they were held!). Anyway, I’m building a new world around me, and it’s coming together in bits and pieces. I would prefer that it be powered by CPUs as a another arm of myself, so to speak. And I want to make some headway in it. I know others are more advanced. But my time has come. Long live Cyberstan (that is, until it goes all wrong, becomes self-conscious, and starts using humans as “copper-tops”)!
